I would like to give 2.5 stars. The first time I was introduced to Michelle's Pancake was by my good friend in South CA. The restaurant there probably was a bit more tasty and experienced than the one here to be fair. But I guess overall, I just wasn't too impressed by the taste or the variety of dishes they provide. The pan fried dumplings were decent but it's not to die for. One of the dish we ordered was tomato soup based noodle soup. Perhaps they were trying to achieve home cooking style without using too much seasoning/msg, it was quite bland and i did not want to finish it.

We follow up with server twice with answer that they had been busy and need another moment.Interesting things was waitress come up with order sheet to ask did we mind to fill again that they may miss the order. That's the time we decide we need to head up for another place and there is table come earlier still have nothing. I still like them, Michelle is still wonderful, they still have great customer service, but... sadly... their pancakes have shrunken in size, they cook the pancakes in a lot more oil now, and their quality control is a little off... We ordered my son his usual favorites- the pork/zuchini- and the insides were visibly undercooked- very pink, cool pork.... They were incredibly nice about taking them back- but then the next pancake order we had also had undercooked pink centers. Pink I'm great w/ steak, but not w/ ground pork.... So I'm a little sad... We'll see how it goes next time.

Oddly enough, I would have to say my favorite thing here was their Fish Dumplings. They had a very nice texture to them and were very flavorful. I normally don't like fish dumplings since I like the pork ones better, but this one was definitely very good.Service is excellent, but parking can be a pain. This place is a great place for Chinese food and authentic steamed dumplings and fried dumplings. You know they cook it in front of you when you can see the chefs working through the glass mirror!Their fried dumpling pancakes are so good! You can tell and taste their freshness and that they were just made through the hotness, steam, and delicious flavor of broth that seeps out when you take the first bite! There is broth inside the steamed dumplings and the fried pancakes. They're so good and delicious and it's like heaven melted in your mouth! The pancakes are definately my favorite to eat here!!! I also like their frieddumplings and their steamed dumplings are only secondary to din tai Fung but still very good and enjoyable! The price is pretty cheap for the quality of the foodThe restaurant is kept very clean and very nice! Decent furniture and atmosphere! I definately recommend this place!

Really like the remodel on this place. We sat right next to the open window where the chefs were rolling out the 'pancakes' and filling them with goodies.Hadn't visited Michelle's in a while, and the food was still delicious. Don't understand the negative reviews. The place is called Michelle's Pancakes - so stick to the pancakes. All things doughy and pan fried are good here. Favorites include the beef and carrot pancake, the jiu cai he ze, and beef rolls. Soup and noodle soups are good breaks in the fried doughdom.

The safe way to eat it, is to bite into it, never taking your mouth off it and sucking in the flavorful juices until enough juice has been sucked out of it so that it won't hit your fellow eaters nearby. The pancake is literally bursting with juice... so you have been warned! No M.S.G. added!Dip into your own mixture of their own legendary home made garlic sauce, hot oil, and other condiment/sauces on each table.Complimentary Kimchi appetizer is super delicious.Staff is helpful and friendly. The restaurant is located in a small shopping plaza that also houses Luscious Dumpling and the Hui Tou Xiang Noodles House... so competition is fierce with all of these places serving up superior fare.

Gotta give this place a lot of cred for trying to do it the right way. Making XLB fresh to order is impressive in itself but offering you the view to watch it being made takes guts. This place does just that. While the flavors are not out of this world (i.e., there are better ones out there), the food here is decent and definitely yummy. These guys know that dumplings, pancakes, noodles and anything made with flour is all about the flour and not about the filling or the sauce. The water dumplings have a nice and chewy wrapping while the hand cut noodles tastes just that -- hand made. You can see from this place why the Chinese feel that Italian pasta dishes have their fingerprint all over it.Definitely recommend this place for those that appreciate or want to sample authentic Chinese cuisine.

The service is poor. They don't refill your tea when they see that it's empty. The food took forever to come out and we were waiting for an appetizer to come out after we finished our entrées, we waited for 15 minutes and it still didn't come out so we cancelled the order. Even after that it took another 15 minutes to get our checks. I usually give at least 3 stars if the food compensates for the lack of/bad service. This will not be the case. The food is "healthier" without the preservatives and less salt, but I don't think taste should suffer to be healthier. I've been to many healthy choice restaurants and food tastes amazing.So... thanks, but no thanks.

Here's the deal - I know this place has a lot of buzz and favorable reviews; I totally respect those opinions and acknowledge that perhaps I simply went on a bad day. Actually, it was very hot that day and it seems like they weren't expecting so many people down for some hot soup. Evidence: there were only 2 people working (not counting kitchen staff). We go in (party of 4) to an almost empty restaurant after our favorite dumpling place in the same plaza was closed for no reason. We were asked to sit wherever. Our expectations were high since this place came recommended from a few people, and we were totally satisfied for a while. The menu looked good and the prices seemed reasonable. The gradual decline of our experience came with the arrival of our waitress. She was very nice, but totally inexperienced. We had been waiting for about 15 minutes after looking at the menu in an empty restaurant without even an offer for drinks. When she finally came she asked us what we wanted - only to run off again in mid-sentence because she forgot her pen and notepad. (Good waiters don't come unprepared to the table; better ones don't even need to write stuff down). She comes back after another 5 minutes (the place isn't that big, btw); we tell her what we want, ask for a few recommendations and she walks away. We call her back because she still hasn't asked us what we want to drink. Did I mention that this was a very hot day?Surprisingly, the wait for the food was not long; and for a while, it seemed like everything would be ok from then on. In retrospect, we weren't even remotely upset at this point. We're nice people. We totally looked past the wait and the silly pen/paper mistake (reassuring her it was ok and not to worry about it).The food was ok. However, I have to agree with many similar comments that some types of dumplings here (especially the boiled/steamed ones) can be kind of bland. There are definitely better dumpling places in the area; one particularly better across the parking lot. To be fair, it's called Michelle's PANCAKE. Perhaps dumplings aren't their forte. We tried their pancakes, which were actually pretty good. Their beef noodle soup is also quite decent. So is their beef tendon appetizer. Then things turn for the worst. We finish eating and all agree that this could be a good substitute for our regular dumpling place. Another 20 minutes go by and we're all staring at each other with empty plates. No one ever came to ask us whether the food was ok, or if anyone wanted another drink or dessert. I had to get up to flag down the girl, who was now mopping the floor for some reason. There was a line of people at the register waiting for service, who were apparently in the same boat as I. It probably took about another 20 minutes to actually hand my credit card over to the man behind the register. My bad experience is not related to the food. The food is 3.5 - 4 stars. What turned me off is the service. I would understand if the place was busy and full, but it wasn't. Perhaps the management put the two rookie-most employees on duty, anticipating a slow day. Running a restaurant can't be easy; but this was totally unacceptable. We arrived to eat at 5:30 and walked out at 7:15. Alcohol-less establishments should not be remotely close to this turn-around (amount of time a party spends in the restaurant).Won't be coming back. Too many places in the neighborhood.

So I have been craving for Beef Roll forever and since I was town, I told m parents I want me some beef rolls and pan-fried potstickers...instead of going to 101 Noodle Express like we usually do when I want some Shanghai/Taiwanese food...my mom suggest this place because I haven't been here before and she said she heard it's good....so I'm like alrighty! don't mind trying out a new place! At first, from the looks on the outside it looked like it would be a dinky place but actually it was pretty big on the inside. So this is what we ordered:Beef Rolls of course!: well sadly it disappointed me in a huge way...it was missing an ingredient!! it was missing the cilantro! usually it's a beef mixture with chopped cilantro tossed in a hoison sauce wrapped in a crispy flaky pancake....but this was missing the cilantro! terrible! I tried it out anyways of course...and sure it's crispy but it just lacked that one thing and it made a big difference. So I can't say I like them very much here..Braised pork noodle soup: it was pretty bland for a soup based type of noodle....the pork was definitely fatty which made it super soft and tender. and I like that they added a load of spinach to it..so it's not the usual few dinky pieces of veggies.Pan-fried potsticker: ugh it was bad...because it wasn't really potstickers..it was pan-fried dumplings which there is a difference - if you have eaten enough of this kind of food you would know. they basically just pan-fried the bottom part of a regular dumpling....the top was wet and soggy. It just wasn't good to me.Beef, carrot and onion pancakes: don't be misled by the "pancake" it's not really a flat pancake...it's more like a bun actually...it's bun filled with meat and veggies....so don't expect flat pancakes please. I already knew it wasn't pancakes..cause I have had it before but I notice a lot of people were expecting like american style pancake or something. Well it's their signature dish....and welll it's okay...I mean I have had better but it's at least better than the other 3 dishes we ordered.Overall this place is eh..it's okay it's definitely not better than the places I usually go to but it's not super terrible that I won't come here again. They were just okay.

But this one was whatever.2. Pork/leek dumplings - So freaking good. The juices just popped out and... yah... really good.3. Lamb potstickers - Wow, the gaminess of the lamb along with the crunch skin was so awesome. The texture of the meat, along with the crisp of the skin and the hot juice exploding in your mouth...Just keep in mind these bad boys are juicy. My friend texted me not to squirt while eating here, and I proceeded to bite into my dumpling and launch a jet across the table. Jeff for the win right?

Went here over the weekend. CAN'T WAIT to go back and try the rest of the menu. The highlight of our meal: the pork and leak pancake. This did not come out as one large pancake, as the name might suggest, but a dish of "pancakes" that look like large, round and sort of flattened fried dumplings. Size-wise they were about three bites apiece. These are the best Chinese dumpling-type items I've ever had. Succulent, juicy, savory filling with a crispy, golden fried dough wrapper. Just sooooo delicious. The reason Michell's doesn't get five stars is that not everything was as amazing as the pork and leak pancake. The green onion pancake was fine (this time one large, round flat pancake, as one might infer from the title "pancake"), if a little too doughy/greasy. The steamed pork and zucchini dumplings were also just fine, not remarkable but totally passable. Looking forward to trying the intriguing vegetarian yam dumplings next time.

Would have been a lot tastier if it was served warm, but ended up being dry.Beef Onion Pancakes = the beef tasted way too gamey and/or undercooked so it tasted bloody. I almost gagged when I attempted for my 2nd one. At least, these came out warm. I'd say the only good thing about this dish is the broth inside.Cold tofu & thousand year egg = no one in the group could stomach this and if you do, be prepared for indigestion for the next 1,000 hrs.Smoked pork & scallions pancake = the only edible dish of the meal. The pancakes are on the thick side (think beef roll wrap thickness) and came out super greasy and oily. Isn't this place's schtick supposed to be all about less oil?Parking: free parking lot

We ordered a selection from pork, lamb, one with egg and a beef roll. My favorite out of the 5 plates was the fried lamb dumplings. I'm not big on fried foods, but the lamb was moist and tender and the dumpling itself was not too greasy.Service was standard. Bathroom was clean. Plenty of tables and chairs as well as parking. The food was still pretty good, but ever since the remodel it just isn't quite the same. It used to have a home style kitchen feel which should be the way places like this ought to look, with people waiting to be seated. Also, what is the deal with having only one door open for customers to enter? Except for us, most people sat on the right side of the restaurant when you enter the restaurant. At least the food arrives about the same time and doesn't take too long. I'll probably come back again, but I won't be frequenting it. There's another place that just recently opened that people were lining up to get into in that same plaza.

The Beef noodle soup was pretty good and I loved the Pork/Onion Pancakes. The food takes time to come so don't expect rush service. We arrived on a late Friday evening and settled for Michelle's because Luscious Dumplings was already closed. I've been wanting to try Michelle's Pancake for a while; they are famous for their Chinese pancakes as well as their homemade dumplings and noodles.[FOOD - 2.5/5]Their cold plates are taken straight from their fridge and plastic wrap removed as it reaches your table, not a pleasant approach. The jellyfish was cut in odd shaped pieces (not uniform) and overdressed with garlic and other herbs, way too potent!Their beef noodle soup was very plain and lacked flavor where many Taiwanese places have it down. The beef was stewed well, and the noodles were definitely fresh, but the soup was just warm! (http://www.yelp.com/biz_…)The fried pork and cabbage dumplings were ok, but the presentation was lacking. One side was fried enough, but the other side wasn't. The sauces on the table made the dumplings taste 10x better![SERVICE - 2.5/5]Like any Chinese restaurant, don't expect the service to be spectacular or even peppy. It is what it is and you'll be lucky if you can flag down when you need something.I probably wouldn't pick Michelle's Pancake unless Luscious Dumplings, Vietnam House and all the surrounding restaurants nearby were all closed. A traditional Asian dumpling house where you can see the workers making the dumplings, the majority of the staff speak English, and they take debit/credit cards too?! Too good to be true. The only reason i didn't give them 5 stars is because they don't turn on the air conditioner in the place. The breeze outside was actually cooler than the temperature inside the day we went. The dumplings and pancakes were good. We kept it simple by ordering the pork and cabbage dumplings, both boiled and fried. surprisingly, I preferred the boiled version. The dumpling skin had just the right amount of thickness and chewiness, without being slimy. We also ordered the beef and onion pancake. those were delicious. The beef roll was average, and in my opinion, the pancake could have been cooked a bit crispier. But the main reason to go to Michelle's is the garlic sauce. That stuff is like liquid crack. It gives you the worst breath, so be prepared and take a piece of chocolate with you to eat afterwards. (yes, chocolate really is effective in getting rid of garlic breath. Mints just temporarily mask the odor.)

The term "pancake" might be a bit misleading.... its not your american IHOP floppy jacks! The pancakes here, for the lack of a better term, is more like a fried dumpling. Its basically a rounder, bigger dumpling in a different shape and then pan fried :)What i LOVE about this place is that the pancake skin is THIN, so you get a good bite of the fillings inside. They arent trying to short change you on the filling with extra dough! Since they make all their dough fresh and by hand, the elasticity is super delish. The regular (non-fried) dumplings carry a slightly thicker skin to hold the fillings together, but the dumplings are always cooked to perfection and plump and yum!Their Tomato Egg noodles.. so simple, but oh so good! drizzle some garlic soy sauce on it, heaven.And..what chinese food place in SGV takes Credit Cards and NOT MAD DOG YOU?!!? Great service, very mom-and-pop style. Be nice to them and they'll totally take care of you.

Just wanted to update my opinion of Michelle's Pancakes. I haven't been in awhile and visited again this past Monday, 04-16-12. Ordered as always to go (I live close by):Beef, Onion, Carrot Pancake (YUM! Almost like a fried Bao; moist but not greasy)Cabbage Shrimp & Pork Dumplings (Pan Fried)Pork, Leeks Dumplings (Pan Fried)Celery, Pork Dumplings (Boiled)Cold Tofu Salad ( A bit plain, but add some of their garlic soy or vinegar)Cold Cucumber Salad (Simple and delicious)Garlic Sauce Spinach Salad (So good, but you will smell like garlic)The above was enough for the two of us for two days... Reheating the dumplings in the microwave for a few seconds the next day was just fine. They still were delicious. The only complaint that I have, is that I did specify to Ina, who took my order, to give me grated ginger too. Actually, I asked for alot of grated ginger and all of their sauces (garlic soy, spicy and vinegar). When I got home, all I had were 2 garlic soy and 1 spicy. No grated ginger and no vinegar. For those who love dumplings, you know that the grated ginger mixed into some dark vinegar really takes dumplings to another level....So, I was a bit disappointed! Luckily, since I am such an Asian food lover, I do keep a good supply of Asian sauces and vinegars in my pantry. However, I was out of the fresh ginger root and the pickled ginger, well, it's just not the same...All in all, I cannot knock off a star for a small mishap. The food was delicious! What I will do the next time (and is my suggestion for those ordering to go) is to make sure before leaving, to ask them for any extra sauces and ginger.I will still keep going to Michelle's Pancakes because they are that "good"!Side note: They gave us a complimentary dish of Kimchee that was "Fabulous".Keep up the good work Michelle's.....

After a 20 minute wait for an order of dumplings, we asked the waiter to cancel our order and of course the excepted reply was "its coming out right now". After another 10 minutes, we inquired about the dumplings again and again they said "its coming out right now". After another 10 minutes they finally arrived, bland and boring. Fail. Northern Chinese food ftw! My parents heard about it from a Chinese newspaper, so we took a trip on a rainy day for some good ol' Chinese pancakes and waddled out the door from all the food. The place is pretty spacious, as they took over 2 suites. Everything seems handmade (pretty obvious as we sat right next to the window where the Chinese lady in the back was pounding away at some dough). Though they say the servings are small, 3 of us could have easily split one dish of the beef roll wrap and been pretty happy. But why stop there. The xianbian (pan-fried dumpling with lots of broth/soup) is delicious and is comfort food to the max. And it was raining, so we got the pork cabbage soup. The skin/wrap for the beef saute was a bit dry, but the beef and sauce softened it up - not an issue. The xianbian was amazing though. It's like a lightly fried thicker skinned soup dumpling. And they don't use MSG! :PWaddled out. Happily. :)

The dumplings were made fresh and they were juicy. The outside wrap was well cooked and the inside was well seasoned, a touch of sauce that was provided was all I needed. The beef and green onion "pancake" was also delectable. No complaints there. We ordered a dry noodle with some minced pork. A bit carb heavy and bland for my taste, but I think that's because I'm not accustomed to the dish as the bf enjoyed it.And the scallion pancake. Perfect and crispy. I would come back, but at the same time I think I should do my due diligence and explore more Taiwanese places in the area.Service - I never expect much from asian places like that and am accustomed to having to wave the guys down for service. Only gripe is that both waiters dragged their feet when they walk which was super annoying lol.

Decided to try this place out since our favorite Dumpling place was closed on Monday. I'm glad we did. It was a pleasant surprise. The beef noodle soup was delicious, as were the pork and onion pancakes. You get a lot of bang for your buck, and they take credit cards as well. The quality of the food was A+. Service was a bit slow, hence the 4 stars. Our pancakes took about 40 minutes to come to our table, but the soup came pretty quick. One piece of advice, park far away on the street, my car got dinged in the parking lot pretty bad.

Michelle's closed down for a number of months for renovation. The reveal was so remarkable that the chrysallis/butterfly analogy actually came to mind. Gone were the spartan formica tables. The new space is twice as large and 10 times nicer with hardwood floors and new wooden tables and chairs. The original menu still exists, heavily featuring dumplings and pancakes. It also added a variety of entrees and a few set menus. After scrutinizing the set menus, we determined that they would contain a carb overload, with at least 3 types of dumplings and two types of pancakes on top of noodles and everything else.My favorites are the dumplings with pork, sea cucumber, and a million other unexpected things. They are juicy and moist and really good with the garlicky soy dipping sauce. The pork and pickled cabbage dumplings were just as good on the second try. I also really liked the pork and scallion pancake, served with a Chinese fermented cabbage. The vinegary bite of the cabbage really added the balance to the rolls.

The various pancakes are excellent. Everything else is ok, nothing spectacular. Cut noodles are good quality. I also like their home made dipping sauce. Free kimchi has good kick.New renovations look good. It's a lot more spacious inside and modern looking.
